Easter Cookies

Caleb and I met our neighbors, Donna and Andrew, at the park this morning. We wanted to let them play for a while before it rained. It was nice to see them actually playing together instead of just in the same vicinity. They must be growing up. He wasn't happy when it was time to go, luckily for me it started sprinkling, so he thought it was fun to run to the car in the rain. During nap, I cut out and baked over 60 Easter cookies so we could decorate some when Caleb woke up. Caleb was very excited about decorating cookies, but more excited about eating the final product. I coated a few cookies with icing then let him decide on the sprinkles. We had a good assembly line going. But after each one he would ask, "Now I eat it?" It was finally time to try a cookie. I think he liked it. Here are some of his finished products. I froze a few dozen to decorate when it's actually Easter.Later we went outside for some big wheel lessons. I am trying to get him to pedal and steer at the same time. He's got the pedaling down, but we keep ending up in our neighbors' yards. He crashed at one point, and I was very proud that he didn't give up. Later we did have to go in for a bandaid though.
Here is a picture that Aunt Shae and Aunt Ginger would be proud of! I had the music playing, and Caleb felt the urge to sing and dance. He went into the kitchen for his "microphone" and then sang and danced around the living room, something Shae, Gin, and I did often when we lived together in college.

On our way home Friday, Caleb and I went over his day. He told me he had "boo boos" on his arm so I asked what happened. "I think Aidan scratched me"; I told him I was sorry and asked if he had to go to tiki time. "No, he go to Walmart." I'm not sure what that meant, but apparently he was moving on to another conversation. "Aidan get me a basketball at Walmart." And so we continued with this interesting conversation all the way home. Friday night I went for a girls night with two of my best friends, Ginger and Shae. We had a great time catching up over dinner and wine, which was much needed after a very busy week. We ended up at Shae's until late into the night reminiscing while indulging in cookie dough. A bad habit we picked up while living together in college. Saturday Greg worked in the morning, and then went fishing with some coworkers, so Caleb and I had the whole day to ourselves. We started with a trip to Cool Cuts for a haircut and then off to the park again. I wanted to try to get some more pics of Caleb for my "black and white picture wall".

After nap, Caleb helped me run some errands. One ended with us in the Willow Bend Mall, so I let Caleb play in the kid's area for a while. Since we realized Dad wasn't going to make it back for dinner, Caleb took me out for dinner at a nice Mexican food restaurant. We had a wonderful day together.

Park, Park, Park

Caleb and I hit 3 parks over my 1 1/2 days off with him at his request. I didn't complain since it was such nice weather. We met up with Trae Trae, Dakota, and Shae our first day out. I was very happy Caleb had a friend to go through the maze of a playground instead of having to drag me along. Today we stopped for "bubbles" on our way to the park. We are both addicted to the strawberry banana smoothie with bubbles at Fat Straw. At bath time, Caleb now enjoys when we spike his hair for him, calling said spikes his "reindeer horns." He even requests gel to keep his "horns" in place. The other night he went into his bathroom, got up on his stool to see his hair, then said "thaaaat's cuuute." I died laughing.

Potty Training

Well we've made it through the flu intact, and I didn't get it! Thank goodness! Though between the flu and bad weather, we've had to keep Caleb trapped inside. I don't know who was more frustrated. One day he resorted to taking all the pots and pans out of our cabinet then putting them back again. I asked him toward the end of the week if he missed his friends, "yes mommy, i miss my friends." He was very excited when he returned to school Thursday. Since we had many days together, I experienced more of the potty training than usual. I have been rewarding his success presently with Dora stickers, much to Greg's chagrin, since it's one of his favorite cartoons. But I found myself constantly taking his diaper on and off to go "potty", apparently only when he wants another Dora sticker. Sometimes he's successful, but just as often, he is not. One day he sat on the potty and tooted, then yelled "I did it, I get a Dora sticker" (which is what he always says). I told him a toot doesn't count, he said very forcefully "yes a toot does to count, i get a Dora sticker." I have a whole new respect for our daycare teachers dealing with twenty 2 year olds needing to go potty several times during the day.

Sickness Strikes Again

Well, just when we think we're finally done with sickness, it strikes again. Greg took Caleb into the doctor yesterday because he was running a fever off and on all weekend. Yes I did look at his ears this time. And he actually was starting to get an infection in the L ear again. We just finished antibiotic's a week ago! His tube is out on the L though, so I'm just hoping we aren't going to have to get tubes put in again. But with his fever , very runny nose, and decreased appetite, I had a feeling it was more than just an ear infection. It's the Flu! Just when I thought we had missed it this year. And of course his ear is infected. I think Caleb enjoys taking medicines way too much. He prefers to hold the syringe for his antibiotics and take his own Motrin and Tylenol as well. He told daddy his tummy hurt and he needed to take medicine, and I'm pretty sure his tummy didn't hurt. I guess it's better than having to hold him down and force the medicines. I remember my parents had a horrible time getting medicine down Aunt Dani. He's doing fairly well for having the flu, occasionally gets the red and glossy eyes, with bouts of irritability, but otherwise same old Caleb. Go, go,go! Unfortunately Greg started with a fever last night. That leaves me. Pray for me please!

Today was my day off with Caleb. We started out by heading to the Coppell park, which has a large wooden playground. On the way though, we made our usual stop at Starbucks. It's sad that he knows which way to get to Starbucks and his "pumpkin loaf". When we pass a Starbucks now he usually says " i want pumpkin loaf mommy." We had a good time at the park; he had me follow him in and out of all the nooks and crannies of the playground, and there were several. Then we picked out some good books at the Half Price Bookstore. He of course went with a fun dinosaur pop-up book. After nap, we took Caleb's friend, Andrew, his birthday gift. They got some good social time in as well. Even played a duet on the piano. But Caleb wasn't through socializing yet. My friend Shae brought her son and nephew over, Dakota and Trae Trae. They had a good time "fixing things" with Caleb's tools, and putting to use many toys that usually never get played with. Since we had a showing on our house this evening, we all ended up eating out together at Chik-fil-a. That was interesting. Caleb and Trae were running all over the place, with Caleb yelling rather loudly. It seems I'll never be able to eat incognito again. They finally went to play in the indoor playground which gave us some peace. I think Caleb will sleep very well tonight.

Stars Game

We had another fun-filled weekend. Aunt Gin and uncle Justin, some of my best friends from college, invited us to watch the Stars play Saturday. We were able to watch from a nice suite filled with food and drink; we felt quite spoiled. Caleb took advantage of the finger foods, particularly the carrots. In fact I'm quite sure he ate all the carrots they had. He really enjoyed "entertaining" uncle Justin during the game, and kept us all busy at some point trying to keep up with him. We had a great time, even though the Stars lost. Thanks again Gin and Justin! This morning we took Caleb for a trial Little Slugger class after church. The class is supposed to teach the fundamentals of baseball. On the way to the class I asked him if he was excited about playing baseball, he said "yes, I'll be as fast as a puppy dog." Greg asked what kind of puppy dog, "a big, fat, red puppy dog" ,"a big fat caterpillar puppy dog". Greg and I had a good laugh as he continued to describe the most interesting kind of puppy dogs. I worry at his use of the adjectives "big and fat". He has used them often since we began reading the Hungry Caterpillar. In the end of the story, it's described as a big, fat caterpillar before it turns into a butterfly. At the class, Caleb had a great time running the bases and hitting the ball. He actually got upset about leaving after the class was over. This afternoon Caleb insisted on playing more baseball with daddy outside. He can never get enough it seems. Maybe Greg and I will be able to retire early when Caleb turns pro!
