Soccer Fun

This weekend we started Soccer. Caleb was so excited, informing everyone, mostly strangers, that he had soccer practice on Saturday morning. Greg had to buy him a new soccer ball and soccer socks with built in shin guards. Caleb was so proud. Too bad it was so windy Saturday so Lexie and I had to watch most of the practice from the car. But it looked like Caleb was having a great time and though he couldn't remember any of the kids names so far, he seemed to enjoy their company. I was even more excited when he didn't fight me over nap time later that afternoon, he was exhausted after all their running and kicking they did. After nap, "Aunt" Ginger and her son Dax came over to play. Lexie and Dax had some mat time together while Caleb desperately tried to entertain us. He put on his soccer uniform to give us a preview of his new soccer look. What a cutie! Later that afternoon while we were watching a movie, I noticed Caleb had gone toward the back door and was staying rather quiet. Unusual for Caleb. So I asked Greg to look over and see what he was up to. I was worried when Greg had a look of disbelief and horror on his face. Then he said "Caleb's peeing!" At first we were shocked and upset. I asked Caleb why he did that and he replied " I was trying to pee outside." Then it became rather humorous. Greg couldn't stop laughing, he said Caleb was trying to hold the doggy door open while peeing outside. Totally Greg's fault for teaching Caleb it's ok to pee outside. I then had to set some new rules. Boys! Lexie has been growing so fast as you can tell by her pictures. She is such a happy baby, and loves to laugh and coo. Her favorite time it seems is to have her diaper changed. She is always giggling when we change her diaper. That seems to be when Greg and her carry on most of their "conversations". She also enjoys bath time, especially when we dry her off in front the mirror so she can see her reflection. I think she wonders who that cute baby is looking back at her. It usually becomes a family affair with each of us divided among the kids to bathe or shower them. Caleb wanted to try out the towel wrap with me.

Swimming Lessons

Yesterday was my day off with the kids. Lexie got up a few times the night before, so Greg got up with Caleb and let me sleep in until 8 a.m. When I finally made a presence, I was informed the "Light man" was here to put in our new security motion lights. The "Light man" was super sweet and just happily went along with his new title. Caleb monitored his movements most of the morning. Then we enjoyed some painting and board games together while Lexie was entertained in her swing. Overall it was a wonderful day off with the kids. Last minute I tried to run some errands with Caleb which wasn't the best idea in hindsight. Caleb had his swimming lesson to get to at 7p.m. and Greg had to be at a parent soccer meeting at 6p.m. So I had to rush home to make a quick dinner, stuff Caleb with at least half of his plate, change Lexie, quickly nurse her, then throw them in the car to make it to swim lessons with 1 minute to spare. I was exhausted, and we are about to begin soccer too. What are we thinking! At least Caleb enjoyed his swim lessons. He had so much fun with his new teacher and cute little swimming partner. She had them going underwater and floating on their backs. I was surprised Caleb went along so easily with that, but I guess that's the benefit of someone else trying to teach him things.

Museum

We had a fun and educational time at the Museum of Science and History in Ft Worth this afternoon. Greg surprised us with tickets to watch "Sharks" at the IMAX first since he knows I'm a big fan of the big fish . What a neat experience that was with the sound and projection surrounding us. Caleb was a little concerned with the large amount of Hammerhead sharks at one point, but otherwise seemed to enjoy the show. He very loudly explained how "some sharks do bite and some sharks don't", and how "dolphins are nice". Half way through the show he realized (again very loudly) "we forgot to get popcorn mommy." We then headed to the main part of the museum for a tour of the exhibits. Caleb's favorite was the dinosaur exhibit of course. Though we had lots of fun in the CSI labs and herding cattle on the Prairie. We ended with some ambulance driving and construction work in the kids center. There was sooo much for the kids to do in the museum that we decided to become members and come back to enjoy many more of the kids exhibits on my Tuesday's off. So anyone in the area let me know because I think I can get up to five of us in free with our membership. It will be nice to have something else close by to do with the kids. Lexie finally woke up toward the end of our tour to join in on the fun. Though she decided to end our afternoon shortly after since she was apparently very hungry.

Weekend Fun

Greg and I started the weekend off with a night out without kids. It was the first in a very long time. Our daycare periodically offers to babysit on a Friday night, so we thought we'd go on a date that was long overdue. We enjoyed a nice dinner at a small Italian restaurant then rushed to see the movie Avatar. It felt weird not having to cut up Caleb's food or constantly tell him to be quiet and be still, or walk out to feed Lexie or change her diaper. Unfortunately we missed the very end of the movie since we ran out of time, but the movie in 3-D was awesome. I was worried I wouldn't like it since I'm not into Sci-fi, but it was a really good movie. I couldn't sleep in Saturday because I had to work, but I think everyone else got to sleep past 8a.m. When I returned, Greg spent the rest of the day with Caleb doing guy stuff. They went by Bass Pro Shop then over to our new church home to watch the premier of a new Veggie Tales Movie which Caleb has been so excited about these last few weeks. While they were gone, Lexie and I did some girl stuff including some light shopping and then dinner with a movie at home. Today we breakfasted at IHOP which we love to do often on the weekend. After Greg and I ordered, Caleb chimed in with "and I would like pancakes with syrup please." The waiter thought he was pretty humorous, but played along nicely. Caleb is becoming very self sufficient and is definitely very confident in himself. I am proud yet fearful of what that might bring in the future. Lexie still prefers her thumb over any pacifiers which I'm afraid will be a harder habit to break, but for now anything that will soothe her exhausted cries or frustration is fine by me.

Happy Valentine's!

Hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine's day full of love and joy. We enjoyed a long weekend since we had Friday off after the snowstorm. Greg and I celebrated V-day with Shrimp-In-Love Pasta and wine followed by fun with the kids. What more could a couple ask for? Hehe Brooke and her boyfriend were able to come Sunday for a visit before heading to the NBA All Star game. Caleb entertained them with some singing and lots of playing. He is doing so good with his guitar and singing. I just know he'll be famous one day. He was so excited about their visit. I think he wore them out before they could head to the game.Monday was Caleb's Valentine party and dance since it was cancelled Friday. Caleb was thrilled Greg and I could both make it. They had all the bulletin boards decorated outside their classes. Caleb's class had a large bouquet with a picture of each child as the flower and beside each child stated what they loved. Of course the boys put their favorite super hero or toy, while the sweet girls had their mom, dad, or sibling as their loves. No surprise what Caleb picked. We danced to a few fun songs before most of the kids found the Lego table to play with. At least we had a chance to meet the other parents and visit. We ended the party sharing lunch with Caleb sitting in their toddler chairs. That made lunch interesting and comical. We got to visit Lexie's class too, though no big party in there just yet. I did get to share hugs and kisses with her. That afternoon when I picked up Caleb, Ms. Gonzalez gave me the heart project she had the kids do. They decorated a heart and she wrote "who their heart belonged to" on the back. She said when she asked Caleb who his heart belonged to he answered "me", she said she couldn't stop laughing he was just "so cute." That's my Caleb. Well he is right, his heart does belong to him. Happy Valentines Day to everyone, hope you celebrate it all year long.

Let it Snow!

I was able to get off work early today because of the crazy amount of snow. By the time I made it home, Greg had already picked up the kids since daycare closed early too. It took us a while to get my car up the drive way, though I think Caleb enjoyed helping daddy shovel the snow (or throwing snowballs at daddy, while he shoveled the snow). Greg and Caleb enjoyed playing in our very rare winter wonderland. They even made a very cute snowman. Caleb was not happy about having to come inside though and asked "when the snow warms up, can we go back outside?" I didn't explain the results of that happening. As pretty as this rare snow is, I can't wait until it warms up so Caleb can burn some of his "egergy". We signed him up for soccer that starts next month which he says he has been "waiting and waiting for", so hopefully he can put some of that extra energy toward the little black and white ball. He has made a good transition to the preschool 2 class, his teachers seem very encouraging and are super friendly. They said he is having no problems making new friends, imagine that, and is catching on to the curriculum quickly. Unfortunately he did act "disrespectfully" according to Mrs. Rose on Monday. She said he didn't follow directions and then made an ugly face at her. I happened to know what "ugly face" that was since I see it at home too often. Luckily that attitude is rare at school; the next day he got a happy gram stating how helpful and pleasant he was acting. I do hope the four's are easier than the three's. He told me the other day that I was "not his mother anymore", I told him I was sorry to hear that, but you still have to eat all your veggies." Ouch, who'd of thought these words would come at three! Though he continues to struggle with who's in charge, he does have his sweet moments like when he saw my wedding picture last week and said "that's when you were a princess mommy." "When I get older, I'm going to marry you, ok mommy." Lexie on the other hand has been such a sweet baby, no talking back yet thank goodness. She is only demanding when she's hungry. Which lately has been more often if you haven't noticed from her pictures. At her 2mo visit she weighed 12.5lbs and was 23in. She was sporting her new hat today since it was so cold outside.

Lexie goes to Daycare

Well my first week back to work went well, but tiring. Grandma came to help out with Lexie during the later part of the week which was awesome. Caleb really enjoyed having Grandma visit. He told her on the phone before her arrival, after 1 day of hearing the news, that he had been "waiting, and waiting, and waiting for her to come." I really appreciated only having to deal with the stressor of returning to work and not daycare in the same week. Yesterday Lexie and I were able to visit my good friend Ginger and her new baby boy Daxton. It was sooo cute watching the two of them discover each other yesterday. Lexie couldn't keep her eyes off Dax. It is going to be so much fun to see the two of them grow up together. Caleb has been very helpful with the care of "baby Lexie". Every time Lexie cries, he lets me know, from whatever room of the house he may be in, that "baby Lexie is hungry" . He constantly talks to her, super close to her face, often telling her how cute she is. We even caught him once holding Lexie in his lap watching cartoons while she was laughing up at him. We all learned a lot from that experience, but Caleb continues to insist he "won't drop her." Just like he can "run out of the way when a car comes" and "run too fast if a stranger comes." I told Caleb it would be Lexie's first day at daycare in the morning. He seemed rather pleased at the news. "Will the teachers change her diapers?" Yes, "yeah and they'll give her baby toys to play with." "They have baby toys in the her room, and we have big boy toys in ours." "We have dinosaurs, but babies don't because they might get scared." I think he will be a big help to Lexie's transition. I hope I handle it as well. Last week I found out RSV had made its way to the infants room the week prior. I pray we do not have to battle serious illness once she is in daycare. Fortunately Greg will be doing the dropping off which is the hardest part, while I get to pick them up. Pray for strength and good health these upcoming weeks.
