Crazy Week

It has been a crazy week! It started with Family pictures Sunday morning before church. Jeanine did an awesome job even though we had some irritable kiddos. It was very hot despite the early hour. Here is a preview of the pictures she edited for me so far.I can't wait to see them all. Then Sunday night started our church's sports camp which Greg and I signed up to help with. The ages were 4y to 6th grade. Greg helped coach the baseball sport and I helped with basketball. I took off half day everyday through Thursday so I could get everyone where they needed to be before the camp started each afternoon. Lex and Caleb stayed at the church's childcare and had lots of fun too. The camp went until almost 9p.m each night, so it was a very tiring week for all of us, but definitely worth the effort. It was a very rewarding experience and we built some wonderful relationships with the youth as well as strengthening our relationship with God.
Thursday night Caleb had a baseball game then his end of the season party at Pizza Inn.
The boys celebrated very loudly over pizza, and had lots of fun getting their trophies.
Another trophy to add to Caleb's collection. We're going to run out of room for all his trophies before he starts school!Caleb was sporting a black eye this week if you can tell in the above picture. Poor guy, one of his teachers turned with clipboard in hand and got him under the eye. Lex is now 8 months and though she hasn't quite got the use of her knees yet, she is very mobile. We bought a safety fence to keep her contained in the living room, but she has recently decided that is not enough space to roam. She has "escaped" several times by pulling the fence forward and sneaking through the tight space.
It's pretty funny because she quickly tries to make it to the doggy door ,which is apparently lots of fun to play with, before we can catch her and put her back in "confinement".
She is going to be a little toot I just know it!

Ouch!

Last night we decided to go to On the Border for dinner. In Caleb's almost 4 years, we have never had a problem with him touching anything hot when we warned him not to until last night. Our fajitas came out smoking as usual and Greg reminded Caleb not to touch the plate because it's hot. Lately Caleb has been testing all the limits, seeming to always do what we tell him not to do. So of course he needed to touch the plate, well I don't think he'll test that out again. He had a nice blister pop up on his finger and poor foolish thing was in tears for a long while before it would stop burning. He basically kept his finger in cool water the entire dinner. Today was my day off with the kids. We enjoyed sleeping in until 7:40 this morning. Lexie is fighting another ear infection of course, so has been fussy and unhappy this week. I can't wait for the tubes. I just hope they do the trick. Luckily today she was more herself and enjoyed playing with big brother and all her many toys in the living room.
Her favorite place seems to be on the lower level of the coffee table. She always heads under there once we put her down to roam.
We had swim lessons at 9a.m. so I had to hurry and get the kids dressed and fed. I asked Caleb to hurry and eat his breakfast, and he very seriously tells me "ok mommy, but cartoons make me eat faster so turn on cartoons so I can eat really fast." Very clever little guy, but actually the opposite is true. He takes forever to eat if he's distracted by cartoons, but he was too cute to disappoint. After swim the kids and I headed to look for Greg's birthday present. I asked Caleb what we should get for Daddy and he said " Not a toy, he wouldn't like a toy. How about a worker's thing." Me: Like what? Caleb:" A shovel so he can dig for buried treasure. And a motorcycle with a helmet. But he has to go fast, because it's safe if he goes fast. If he goes slow he could get hit by a car." Wow. The things that goes through his head.
Here are some pics when Dax and his parents came to visit. Lexie was a true bully to poor Dax. She kept stealing his toys since he couldn't move away from her.
I'm sure he'll get her back once he gets mobile though.

Sickness Strikes Again

Yesterday was my day off this week, which ended up being a good thing since we were called to pick up Caleb early Monday. He started vomiting at school that afternoon and was running a fever. We felt bad since he told us that morning he should stay home because he was sick. But he was acting normal otherwise without a fever at the time, so I had Greg tell the teacher to keep an eye on him so we could pick him up if he really was acting sick. Well I guess he was right, poor guy. He ran a fever close to 102 all night, it wouldn't break and he couldn't keep anything down so he was very dehydrated. Every time I tried to talk him into trying a sip of something, he blamed whatever he ate or drank as the culprit to his throwing up. I finally had to pretend Pediolyte was "magic juice" to help him feel better. Tuesday morning he finally stopped throwing up around mid morning, and his fever started to dissipate. He kept bringing me the thermometer to scan his forehead and "see if he was still sick". It was difficult keeping him quarantined upstairs, while taking care of Lexie downstairs. So much for a day off. In the afternoon Greg came home early to stay with Caleb so I could take Lex to the ENT. He, not surprisingly, said we should get tubes. It is officially scheduled for August 10th. Hopefully that will decrease some of the medicine use around here. Dealing with sickness at home and work is getting old fast.

Caleb usually is ready to wake up and get going in the mornings when nudged, but this morning when we woke him he said " I just want a little more hours to sleep, ok ." Poor guy. Too bad he never seems to need more sleep on weekend mornings. Caleb has moved up to the Pre-K class and is loving it. Since he is the youngest in his class all his friends had already moved up, so he was excited to get to move up a little earlier than his 4th birthday. He now struts around claiming he's a big kid now.I'm officially done breastfeeding Lexie. She is 7 1/2 months now and is, or should say was, fully switched over to formula this week. Unfortunately today her caretaker at daycare accidentally gave her someone else's breastmilk instead of her formula. I was upset at first, but realized it was an accident and fortunately the other Mom also works in healthcare so is tested often and up to date on all immunizations. Her poor teacher was a mess though when I went to pick up Lex, she was so upset by the mix up. I tried to reassure her that I understood it was an accident. I can imagine the confusion with 6 babies, I get confused with just 2 kids. They are now putting in a double check system for feeding time though.Poor Lexie is fighting her fourth ear infection this week. I guess it's time to visit the ENT now for those tubes.

Lex and Caleb go to the Museum

Saturday Greg had to work, so the kids and I decided last minute to entertain ourselves with another trip to the Museum. Caleb always loves the change to go back. There is so much to do that we never get to everything in one trip. We made perfect timing since a show was just about to start in the Planetarium with Big Bird and Elmo as the commentators. Lexie and Caleb enjoyed seeing all the stars and comets along with the funny Sesame Street characters. Then we headed outside for a nice lunch picnic.
The rest of the afternoon was spent digging for dinosaur bones, building airplanes, and learning the meaning of motion with things like a hula hoop. Lexie decided to skip her morning nap and stay up to watch all the kids explore. She was fighting the much needed sleep which made it more difficult to multitask with Caleb. She finally passed out the last 45 minutes of our venture. I wanted to check out the new Leonardo Da Vinci exhibit, but that wasn't as exciting as all the "hands on exhibits". I tried to get Caleb to sit and listen to the documentary playing, but he informed me we can only sit for a minute. Less than 20 seconds later he got up and said "ok that's enough. Let's go." By the end of the outing, we were all hot and tired. That's when you know it has been a successful outing and hope for an early bed time. On the way home I stopped by a Dairy Queen for ice cream thinking it would be a good way to cool off. My mistake was allowing Caleb to have a cone "which you can eat mommy." We were about 2 minutes from the house when I hear a "oh" followed by Caleb crying " Stop mommy, I dropped my ice cream on the floor." Which actually ended up being in the open diaper bag. Funny thing is I knew I'd regret it when I bought him the ice cream.
Lexie is definitely more active than Caleb was. She constantly is moving when you try to hold her, and when you put her down, she moves quickly to all the areas she should not be. We try to block the "off limit" areas with pillows since she still hasn't technically crawled.
She drags herself with her upper body very well though and can already pull herself over pillows and other objects. I have a feeling I'm going to have a tougher time with Miss Lexie than I did with Caleb, which is really scary!

Fourth of July

We enjoyed a nice long Fourth of July weekend. I woke Saturday before everyone else so I took advantage of the peaceful morning and went for a nice long run. When I got back, Greg had pancakes for everyone. Then Caleb and I headed out to find a birthday gift for our neighbor, Dax. He had a bounce house and pizza at his house for his 5th birthday. Caleb spent most of the afternoon there enjoying all the new friends he made. Lexie enjoyed playing with all of Ivy's fun toys until she finally gave into fatigue. Then we had a low key evening and enjoyed a nice long movie. It was a nice peaceful day. The next morning we headed to the infamous IHop for breakfast and enjoyed our usual. No one can say Caleb isn't assertive. Greg realized that he forgot to ask for ketchup after our waiter had gone, and though Caleb seemed to be eating and not paying attention, when he saw a waitress passing by he yelled "excuse me". Though she wasn't our waitress she politely stopped and asked if she could help him, and he replied "my daddy needs ketchup." Greg and I busted out laughing because he took us by surprise, though he looked at us with confusion. We quickly let him know he did a wonderful job and asked very politely. He is going to be such a strong leader one day I just know it. Sunday afternoon we headed to Greg's uncles house for a good time swimming and grilling burgers. Lexie enjoyed being spoiled by everyone and bonding with the great-grandparents. It was an act of congress to get Caleb out of the pool. He enjoyed putting his swimming lessons to good use.Lex had been coughing some over the weekend, so we stayed dry and enjoyed watching Caleb and Daddy splash around. Then we met up with our neighbors again to make the trek to Hurst's firework show. Caleb was like glue to our neighbor's boys. They had a band playing and lots of people wandering the grounds. The kids enjoyed playing with their new glow sticks and dancing to the band's music. When the fireworks started, everyone was in awe by the show. It was soooo close. I was very impressed. It was one of the best shows we had ever seen. Lex was startled at first by the noise, then enjoyed the show while chugging down her bottle. Nothing like good entertainment with dinner I suppose. When we asked Caleb if he liked the fireworks he said "yeah, but it scared me just a little." We didn't get in until after midnight, so the kids slept until 9 a.m. this morning. It was great. Today was a very lazy day. Greg and I began watching all the Star War movies since there was a marathon going. And Caleb and Lex played with their toys and lounged around with us. We have to watch out for Lex now, she has got the army crawl down. She hasn't quite got the idea of putting her knees to use, but she can drag herself wherever she wants with her upper body very quickly. Monte has to be on guard too. She is constantly trying to reach him to pull on his ears or grab his tail. Poor Monte just sits and takes it though. He has been such a good dog for the kids. Tonight we cooked out with the neighbors on our new deck, while the boys played in the water. It was a good ending to our holiday weekend.

Fun, Fun, Fun

Today was my day off with the kids. Lex and I enjoyed watching Caleb during his swim lessons. He was working on taking a breath while swimming and mastering floating. He continues to be fearless of the water so I am glad lessons are paying off. Afterward we went to their school for the Fourth of July Parade. Caleb didn't want to miss it. He readied himself with his very crafty hat, and joined the march around the school. The poor toddlers cried most the time since they could see their parents just out of their reach. Then we headed home to enjoy the rest of the afternoon off. Our neighbors have 3 kids, Dax 4, Ace 3, and Ivy who is 2 weeks older than Lexie. They came over to enjoy a play date while their mom, Amber, and I visited. Lexie and Ivy always seem to want what the other is chewing on, though they also enjoy trying to grab each others face or hair. The boys were playing the roles of different super heroes of course. After the playroom was destroyed and all the fun was had at home. Greg and I took the kids to dinner and then to watch Toy Story 3, which was definitely my favorite of the trilogy. Overall it was a successful day off with the kids.
